With the announcement that the introduction of FSR 4 is “only the beginning,” AMD has once again hinted at its partnership with Sony on PS6 development. Sony co-developed AMD’s most recent upscaler and helped with the models used to train FSR 4, such as PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

The PS6’s development is now a mystery, even though Sony didn’t specifically address it when it revealed its collaboration with AMD. This lack of disclosure has led to rampant speculation and excitement among gaming enthusiasts, making them eager for any clues about the next generation of gaming consoles. Before Sony revealed Project Amethyst, there had been rumors for over a year that the companies were collaborating on next-generation platforms, hinting at a powerful partnership that could redefine gaming experiences. From the PS4, Sony and AMD have had a solid collaboration, working together to innovate and push technological boundaries. According to an AMD worker who spoke out in July, the company was on the verge of financial collapse when Sony intervened and saved it from bankruptcy by giving it the PS4 production contract, a move that not only secured jobs but also laid the foundation for future advancements in gaming technology. As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, the joint efforts of these two giants may very well pave the way for unprecedented developments in the gaming industry.
