The foundation said in a statement that the collection contains “artwork, press kits, and marketing materials from legendary video games” in addition to “never-before-seen game development documents.” Additionally, customers will have access to 1,500 out-of-print gaming publications dating back to the early 1980s through the library. This includes issues of the now-defunct Game Informer, which was the longest-running videogame magazine in the US until its owner, Gamestop, unexpectedly terminated it last year.

In a Bluesky discussion earlier this week, Frank Cifaldi, the organization’s creator, also demonstrated some of the library’s features. Users will be able to search the whole magazine library using text, arrange it chronologically, and filter magazines by publisher, platform, location, and other criteria. “Every gaming magazine in our collection in chronological order that mentions ‘Metroidvania’” is what Cifaldi looks for in his example.
