The initial teaser was supposed to drop on December 5, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time. On December 4, though, it leaked a day early, so Rockstar formally released it early.

Oxford resident Arion Kurtaj, who has autism, was a significant member of the global gang Lapsus. The gang targeted major tech companies, resulting in nearly $5 million in damages to Rockstar Games. Due to his skills and inclination toward cybercrime, the court deemed Kurtaj a continued threat to public safety, leading to his indefinite confinement in a secure hospital. Although unable to stand trial due to severe autism, assessments focused on his actions rather than criminal intent. A mental health evaluation revealed his persistent desire to engage in cybercrime, highlighting his strong motivation. While under police protection and bail, Kurtaj continued his hacking activities, culminating in a notorious attack.

In the recent trial at Southwark Crown Court, a 17-year-old member of the Lapsus$ group, along with others, was found guilty of breaking into BT/EE and Nvidia to steal data and demanding a ransom of four million dollars. The individual received an 18-month Youth Rehabilitation Order, prohibiting the use of VPNs and requiring supervision, educational and vocational training, and regular meetings with a probation officer. This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of cybercriminal activities, particularly for young individuals.
